Description
Hand painted on wood, dating to circa 1850 - 1900 from Romania. This is part of the interior architecture of a destroyed Synagogue in Romania, which occured during World War Two. I had this shipped to me directly from Romania. No damage or repairs of any kind. It is 46 inches long and 16 inches high. This would of been part of the decoration above the ark (where the Torah scrolls are kept), in the Synagogue. Shown are the two priestly hands (Cohen) - you might know them better from Spock / Star Trek (this is from where it was taken), a crown above the hands, with the Hebrew letters "KT", which stands for "Keter Torah" = Crown of Torah (Old Testament).Shown in the last photos are from books on Synagogues, notice in the grainy brown and white photo (taken in the 1920's in Ukraine), the pair of hands and crown (which is labeled Crown of Torah). Then notice the color photo of the painted wood (on slats, like this is), and finally the last photo, which again shows the hands and crown.Very heavy piece. Shipping will be by FedEx ground for $55 to anywhere in the lower 48 states of the USA. I really don't want to ship this outside the USA because of the heavy weight and bulk. But I guess Canada would be ok. It will be expensive though since this has to go airmail (post office cancelled boat mail a year ago). A unique piece of pre-Holocaust European Jewish life.
