Description
Current Lot EUGENE VERBOECKHOVEN (Belgian 1798-1881) SHEPHERD WITH SHEEP, RAM & DOG. Outstanding important large oil on canvas scene shows a shepherd walking toward farm with coat over arm and walking stick having a flock of thirteen sheep and one ram trailed by a dog. A goat is seen on slight rise above flock under a tall tree. In the distance is a town, road and other figures. The scene shown under a blue and cloud sky, a gathering rainstorm is coming from the left. Signed bottom right and dated "1869". A wonderful important example of this artist's finest work in an impressive size. Housed in a modern gesso decorated gilt frame.
