Description
16 x 20 inch Print of Mexican Prostitutes, Mexico City, 1934 by HENRI CARTIER BRESSONRarely seen image by Henri Cartier-Bresson (1908 – 2004) the French photographer widely recognized as one of the greatest photographers of the last century and an early devotee of 35mm format. Known for his candid street photography style using a Leica camera, his images and ideas influenced generations of photographers. Cartier-Bresson spent more than three decades on assignment for Life and other periodicals; his images are also published extensively in his legendary books. He was a co-founder of Magnum photos and coined the idea and phrase “the decisive moment,” for which he is perhaps best known. This image of prostitutes in Mexico City was taken very early on in his career. Especially in this size, this print is rare and, until the last decade, a private image. A recent Bresson book and exhibition, Scrapbook, reveals how critical this 1934 trip to Mexico was to his growth as an artist. Print is in perfect condition. Signed on the front in ink below image and embossed with his seal. This is a true collectors piece.
