Description
Oil on Board by N. Diaz c 1860-1880. Signed lower right hand corner. We frankly are at a loss as to what to value the painting at. Therefore we are posting it at $100,000 or Best offer. We needed an amount well beyond as to what it is worth to protect ourselves from selling to inexpensively, but that said, we are willing to negotiate a fair and reasonable price for it. Therefore, please do not let the $100,000 deter you from making an offer. We invite the market to let us know what they believe it is worth in a reverse auction if you will. The painting was under glass in the frame shown, but we had the original laquer removed, the painting cleaned and lacquered again. The frame was also completely repaired at that time. The glass was not reinstalled on the advise of the restorer. Frame is from the appropriate time period as is the name plaque. Frame is 27" X 23" and painting is 14" X 10". The picture is very dark and hard to photograph. It is representative of much of Diaz's work in its dark shadows in a forest. Cows are the only living creatures present. I have posted pictures both taken indoors and outside in the sun, but you have to see it in person to really get an understanding of the piece. We believe, and everyone we have had look at it knowledgeable in such things, that this is absolutely genuine. This includes the art restorer who has been in the business for 30 years. That said, we encourage anyone interested to come and personally examine it. The painting is in Chester, New Jersey and you may call 908 879 3211 during weekday business hours to arrange a time for a viewing. We are also willing to have the picture transported (at Buyer's expense) to a mutually agreed upon expert for authentication prior to its being paid for. I am forced by eBay rules to put a freight amount for shipment in the listing. I am entering $1.00 with the understanding that all actual transport costs, including packing and insurance are for the Buyer's account.
