c1940 PA Amish Hooked Rug w/Two Running Horses Start Price USD 1,500.00 Current Price USD 1,500.00 Time Left - Bid Count 0 Buy It Now Price - Reserve Price - Start Time Tuesday, November 18, 2008 End Time Tuesday, November 25, 2008 Location Memphis, Tennessee See more about 'c1940 PA Amish Hooked Rug w/Two Running Horses' Description An early to mid twentieth century Amish hooked rug of two galloping horses.A very similar rug is shown in the book "Decorative Arts of the Amish of Lancaster County" by Daniel and kathyrn McCauley.I've pictured that one in the last photo and a portion of the caption reads,"This design was developed by Aaron L.Smucker about 1930 for his sister Sarah.The pattern quickly gained acceptence as a pattern for Amish boy's rugs.All known examples are essentially the same,varying only in small details".This one has some slight variations but is very close to the one in the book.It measures 25" x 43"and is in very good condition.There are a couple of small areas on and behind the rear horses neck that are a slighty different color but I dont think they are repairs.The fabric appears to be the same type and age as the rest of the rug.It is currently mounted and the back is covered so I cant see if there is a patch in that area but by feeling the front I'm pretty sure there is not one.There are no holes,pulls or stains and the colors are strong.I can take it off of the mounting board (which measures 36" x 56")and ship for 20.00 but if youare interested in buying it mounted I'll be glad to send photos and a shipping quote.
